5 Tips For Your 1st Week
The first week is usually the hardest. When we, humans, try new things it's uncomfortable and difficult because it's things we don't normally do and change is hard. Here are 5 tips to get through your first week to be successful:
Get rid of anything that might be tempting to consume. Out of sight, out of mind is the saying. If you aren't able to access it, it makes it much easier to abstain. Do your best to clear your life of the Toxic things and make room for the good ones.
Find a trusted friend who can check in with you daily. Text during the day and have a check-in chat in the evening. This step is essential for those who struggle with self discipline. Get them on the phone on your way home so you aren't tempted to pull over and purchase something you are trying to cleanse from.
Move your body. Not only with the feel good hormones pulse through you, you will also sweat out all the bad stuff. Exercise in any form is important to recovery whether it's your first week or your 100th. Remember to be gentle and don't do anything you aren't comfortable with. Start with taking a 30 min walk every day, and work your way up from there.
Remember to hydrate. Drinking water is important in general. Your body has probably been dehydrated for awhile now so re-hydrating it will take some time. Just be ready to use the restroom a lot more frequently.
Finally, be gentle with yourself. It's OK to have cravings, it's OK to feel things you don't normally (or normally) feel, and it's OK to not have any idea what you are doing. To be honest, most of us don't have any idea what we're doing, we just go along with it until someone who knows more guides us in a different way. Give yourself some room to make mistakes. Be aware of what has and hasn't worked, and do what you need to do to get yourself where you need to go. Everyone's journey is different, be patient with yours.
